This week I am recommending that everyone that is able to attends today's Celtics victory parade. With all of the success of our local teams lately, most notably the multiple championships of the Pats and Sox, it's easily to fool ourselves into thinking this sports euphoria will continue forever in Boston. The truth of the matter is it will not. Each victory parade could potentially be the last of your lifetime, or at least for many years to come. Despite today's parade for the C's being the city's 7th this century, Boston has known famine just as well as it has known this title feast. The Sox waited 86 years in between titles; the Pats waited over 40 years before their first Super Bowl title; the B's haven't had a parade since 1972; and the Celtics, despite being the winningest franchise in basketball history, are celebrating their first title in 22 years. That means there are people of legal drinking age who weren't even born when Bird and company won #16. So appreciate what we have here, knowing it wont last forever. And, if possible, do so in person to give thanks to the team that brought us our most recent title in this amazing Boston sports run.

Hope to see some of you there! And maybe LB will come back to Boston just to say "Kobe eats sh*t"
I called in sick to work for the Pats 1st parade. All the other parades i've missed caused i moved to Texas in 2003. It pains me to think that there is any "FAN" living in the area that couldnt make a potential once in a lifetime event. For anyone that does go give a few wild yells for me.
Well put.
This will be my 5th (I only missed the Pats 3rd SB win), and though they can become a bit monotonous, I realize with each one how precious this time is, and how glad I am to be [relatively] young for it.
It is also just fun to see the players up close.
Lame that they're not having any speeches--pretty second rate move by mumbles menino if you ask me...why the hell not?? they don't want too many people in government center?? safety issues?? drunken fans? stupid....hearing people talk is better than watching them go by for 2 seconds on a duck boat.
Really fun time at the parade. I think it was one of those things that is much more fun in person because they were bashing how unmemorable it was on sports radio. I nearly lost my voice screaming, but totally worth it. I was a little annoyed though that we didn't see KG or Perk. We were apparently on the wrong side of the street.
People who clearly heard me scream to them....
Dana Barros
Tommy Heinsohn
James Posey (who kept saying thank you)
Eddie House (having an awesome time)
Pierce's float went by at 30 mph and we didn't even realize he was on the back until he was 20 yards past us.
Not a lot of idiot behavior, despite clearly there being lots of idiots. Overall a very fun time and I definitely stick by my recommendation. If you didn't make it, please be sure not to miss the next one!!!
You are so funnily dramatic DK. I am SOOOOOO EXCITED for the Celtics. We watched it live here in Osaka. I honestly wish I could go to the parade! Yahoo!
KG is the one I didn't see and wanted to. Saw Perk though. Pierce came by, but put his head in his arms right when he got to us. Lil' House was there too!
I got some good photos/footage.
Right on WCC! The parade is nice, but the speeches are what everyone remembers. Who can forget Larry Bird's comments that DK alluded to or Bob Kraft doing the Ty Law shuffle. Great stuff!
And if there were any incidents during these events they were few and far between.
Menino is becomming more an more of a crumudgen in his old age.
Sadly, they way these events are heading the next celebration (fingers crossed) will be a virtural parade on-line.
