Tonight Jon Lester tossed a no hitter against the Kansas City Royals. Great stuff. Even better, for me at least, was that I was at Fenway Park to witness it in person. In the interest of full disclosure I must admit that I didn't even realize Lester had a no hitter going until the Royals were coming to bat in the 7th inning. That is when I looked up to see Lester's pitch count and saw the zero in KC's hit column. Perhaps it was my cluelessness that enabled me to avoid jinxing the lefty, and therefore helping him to toss the no-no. That's my take at least. This is by far the greatest individual sports performance I have ever witnessed live. After going through the catalog in my mind of all the sporting events I've attended I believe the previous top performance was by Ty Law, who had 3 interceptions in the 2003 AFC Championship against the Colts to propel the Pats to the Super Bowl. But move over Mr. Law, Jon Lester is the new #1 on my list, and this one will be hard to top. Can anyone out there top me? (And keep in mind this is for individual performances only, so watching the Sox win the Series, etc, does not count)Monday, May 19, 2008

My former Red Sox #1 individual moment was a tie between John Valentin hitting 3 homers in a game (1995). The best pitching performance was Bruce Hurst who pitched a 2-0 complete game shutout to clinch the AL East title in 1986 vs Toronto. He struck out 9 and did not allow an extra base hit.
I feel better...I just heard V-Tek say he didn't realize it was a no-hitter until the 8th.
