Before this series I heard people say the winner of Game 3 would win it. That turned out to be the Celtics. Before Game 2 was played in The Jungle I predicted the winner of that game would decide the winner of the series. That turned out to be the Pistons. Both teams have had quick starts turn into victories in the series. Both teams have gotten both outstanding and horrendous performances out of their stars. Both teams have gotten the same from their benches. Both teams have proven they can win on the road. Neither team has shown they're capable of winning two games in a row. After four games both teams have proven very capable of winning, and losing, this series. So will Game 5 be the one that actually decides the outcome? I believe that is only true in one direction, and unfortunately it is not favorable to the Celts. I think if Detroit wins this one the C's are all but done...but a Boston win does not necessarily mean the end of Detroit. The Pistons have too much experience and are too solid with their backs against the wall to count out, even down 3-2. But Boston should be able to start quick behind an enthusiastic crowd and use it to propel them to victory. It wont mean the series is over (as a Game 4 win would have) but a 3-2 lead will still be looking sweet for the C's. The Prediction: Celts win 98-86. KG dominates. Boston hits 20 before Pistons reach 10 and never look back.

So to answer my own question the answer is yes...but only if Boston loses.
I had a dream last night that the Celtics got blown out and Big Baby intentionally dove into the Celtics bench hard to save a ball and Ratliff threw him back on the court. Weird dream...good thing my dreams are usually wrong. I predict a close game, Celtics win 88-83 and bury key free throws at the end. I hope to see Leon Powe enter the game if we start showing bad rebounding skills again. I agree that KG will have a big game.
correction...Big Baby dove into the Pistons bench intentionally
I am predicting a Pistons blowout.
Detroit finally has a working rotation (Stuckey, Maxiel with a litle Ratliff and Hunter) and can double off of Ray Allen ALL NIGHT. Rondo is afraid to take the open jumper and KG settles WAY too much for fall away shots. Ray Allen couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat and I think the seven games vs. Atl and Clev are starting to catch up to the C's.
A better question is - who is going to be the random bench guy to greatly exceed his normal minutes tonight?
Doc cannot establish a normal rotation. I would normally vote for Scalabrine - but since he is still sporting the same outfit from Casual Male Big and Tall every game - I am going to go with Leon Powe by a whisker over Tony Allen.
It is time for Ray Allen to pull a JD Drew. One big game/moment can change everything
i agree w/ dk--celts lose, they're done-pistons lose, 50/50 chance they still win the series. something just doesn't feel good about the celtics these days. they're a different team than they were in the regular season--take ray allen's crappy shooting out of it. Posey's been average, leon powe doesn't play anymore, rondo is a total wildcard any given night. basically they need pierce or garnett to have a monster game any given game now to be competitive.
DK - Would you like some syrup with that waffle?
The series is over if the Pistons win tonight - but not if the Celtics win? That is a pretty big limb you are going out on there.
The series is over tonight - regardless of who wins (which i think will be the Pistons by 12).
If the Celts pull a vicoty out - no way Detroit wins 2 in a row.
If the Pistons win - start making tee times for Doc and the boys effective Sunday.
I still don't think tonight is a clincher for the C's. They can only lose it, they can't win it. I'll be there doing my best to drive them to victory though. I think it is actually yahoo-type behavior to say the C's have this wrapped up with a win. They weren't able to knock of the Hawks or Cavs in Game 6 after winning Game 5, so why will this be different? A dominating performance (and Ray Allen playing well) is the only way I would think otherwise.
Hey polarbear you know the site is called realbostonsportsfans right? whats this picking the other team stuff. Even if that were the case you cant be a real boston sports fans, boston teams will always win, until they don't not until then do we speak negative about them.
The way the series has been going its Det time to play terrible. But the series wont continue that way becasue not only will the C's WIN tonight they'll also win game 6.
I'm going to say that game 5 does not decide this series. It could easily go 7 and if it does, it doesn't matter who won game 5.
I know Doc's taking a lot of heat about the rotations, and it's a little unfair when you have such a deep bench because you can't play everyone...but JBS is right, Leon Powe needs to play. Get him in there, Doc!
Good news: Celts favored by 5 or 6 in Vegas...and those guys are paid to be right.
Bad news: 75% of the money is on Celts. I'm not sure the betting public is who you want on your side here.
Bad news: I just bought a new Celtics hat, which usually means the end is near. Would you like to see my fam's new Bruins clothing we got after game 6 against Montreal?
Good news: Mrs. WJ thinks I look awfully sweet in the new lid.
Good news: The Polarbear is finally ringing in with some solid one liners.
Bad news: JBS is telling us about his dreams with other men.
The Big Ticket, The Truth, Jesus, Swamp Thang and the nicknameless Rajon Rondo get it done tonight.
vertrouwen, usk, confiance, das Vertrauen,bizalom,keyakinan,wiara,confianza,zaupanje....no matter the language you gotta have FAITH. (thank god for online translators)
Rondo is the only member of the starting 5 without a nickname. I think he needs one. And who better come up with one the real boston sports fans.
ps. PB can you predict a Pistons blowout in game 6 for me please?
Just got back from the game, wearing my customized Perkins jersey, and man was it SWEET! I must say that was way closer than I was hoping for after having a huge lead like that, but GREAT (not an exaggeration) game from Perk aka K-Perk aka the Perkolator aka the Enforcer aka KP43.
Pierce was not good tonight and me and the guy next to me were both saying at one point that he had 15 and neither of us could remember any of them.
Refs = HORRIBLE! Maybe watching on television made the calls more easy to understand, but in The Jungle it looked like everything was going against the C's. The flagrant vs PJ, the clear path vs KG, the tech vs Perk, the non-goaltending call on a Perk shot, etc etc etc. Another guy in our section had money on the C's and was convinced they refs were going to make the C's win by less than 5.5, which obviously they did.
Sam Cassell should be done for this series. Play House or Pierce at PG. Great win by the C's...clutch free throws and you need to give Doc credit for the fouling strategy at the end. After Rondo foulding Billups on that 3 pointer, I totally agreed with this strategy later.
It was not good on television.
The refs blew goats game 5.
Those back-to-back flagrants - Terrible! Then when Garnett got "blocked" under the hoop to swallow their whistles, not what they had established earlier.. it is like a different sport.
I am not one to complain every night after a loss (or a win) but the referees have been doing some serious salad tossing as of late.
