Red Sox vs. Blue Jays 4/30/08

The Red Sox got a nice walk-off win last night and managed to win despite Roy Halladay showing why he is my favorite non-Sox player in the league once again. The guy pitches both quickly and effectively, a good combo to watch for sure (unless your team is playing him). Moving on to tonight though, it's important the Sox win another and get some momentum going. Dice-K going 7 or 8 innings would be huge and it would be nice to see Papi start to really break out (I thought he had won it for them in the 9th with his bomb that went foul last night). If they lose tonight after beating Halladay and put a quick stop to their momentum, last night will be all for naught.

Heading into the 8th the Sox are up 1-0 courtesy of the 7 strong from Dice-K I asked for and the homer from Ortiz I asked for. Now if the bullpen can hold on I will be far less upset about the offense basically being shut down by Dustan McGowan.

Game now tied 1-1...perhaps we need to start looking at the possibility that Manny Delcarmen isn't as good as we want him to be or think he is. So far this season he has pitched 11.2 innings, has allowed 13 hits, 4 walks, 2 homers and is 0-1 with a 6.17 ERA. If the Sox can only rely on Paps and Okie out of the pen they are going to have trouble all season. A two man bullpen will not cut it.

Sweet win! Get to turn on the Sox at halftime of the C's game and get to watch them win it in the bottom of the 9th! On a side note, although it did not come back to haunt them, Manny should have gone to 3rd when Lowrie was thrown out at the plate and there wouldn't have been so much drama at the end...but he did still score and they did still win so I guess there is no need to complain about "what ifs" for now.

Great point about Manny...I"ve been saying the same thing all year...I was at the game last night and his 3rd throw of the game was his best and that was when he hucked a bucket of bubble yum onto the field after being pulled by Tito...It's time he is taken out of late inning role...If you're putting him out there with the intention of pulling him the second someone gets on i.e. last night (which i called by the way), he shouldn't be out there because Tito has no confidence in him right now...Only a matter of time before Hansen (if he keeps his STRAIGHT fast ball on the corners) and Masterson are eating up Manny's old role...Love the idea DK.

Thanks Gator. As I said in today's post things for the middle relievers aren't looking good when David Aardsma is starting to look like the best middle relief option instead of just Kyle Snyder's replacement. You may be right...they may have to dive into the minor league system to find an answer to this. Delcarmen is the only option with even much potential out there and Tito doesn't seem to trust him any more than we do at the moment.
